Diverse female protagonist, Directed by a woman, Written by a woman, no white man to spoil the fun...

What could go wrong? Captain Marv... err I mean Mulan with high Chi (Midichlorian) count saves the day. Men are in awe and wonder at how strong a woman can be and that she only needed 'plot' armor to progress through the whole ordeal.

PS: This movie would've been really short. Commander Tung training the soldiers said if you are weak and don't keep up with the wushu moves he's pulling off he would send them home. All the father would have done is fail the training and he'd be sent back. End of story right there.

"Directed by a woman, Written by a woman, no white man"

Do you ever have a problem when both the writer and director are white men? You sound entitled and expect all movies to be written and directed by white men. Your attitude is a great example of white skin privilege, too. Thanks for showcasing your misogyny and racism as proof they still exist.

reply

I think you misunderstand OP. They're not complaining that Mulan is written and directed by women. They're highlighting that despite making a point to arbitrarily stack the film female and not really involve the evil white man, it was still a flop.

The only people that care if a writer and director of a film are both white men are brainlet feminists

reply

LM AO...THEY MISUNSERSTOOD.THEN YOU HEADED DOWN THE SAME PATH...PATHETIC PEOPLE.

reply

AH HA. AT LEAST IT'S NOT WHATEVER PATH YOU'RE ON.

reply

lol Brainlet feminists is something a brainless masculinst would say.

reply

Do you mean masculinist? The fact you immediately deflect with that nonsense speaks volumes btw.

reply

Evidently it was too far over your head.

reply

You're going to need to clarify what you mean.

reply

"I think you misunderstand OP"

No, I didn't. And you just admitted your own misogyny:

1. "arbitrarily stack the film female"

You're as entitled as the OP to suggest a movie shouldn't have a female antagonist.

2. "not really involve the evil white man"

Cry me a river! Another example of your sense of entitlement because you want all movies and TV shows to represent white men as heroes 100% of the time. Nothing heroic about slavery and stealing Native-American land so you can put away your Confederate flag.

3. "The only people that care if a writer and director of a film are both white men are brainlet feminists"

What nonsense since the OP is a misogynist who created this topic!

reply

Wow. That is an impressive lack of understanding. Do you really get that I think a film shouldn't have a female antagonist from my post? You are projecting your own issues with gender here.

And again, you see entitlement to want all films and TV to represent white men as heroes 100% of the time? Absolutely wild.

Telling me to put away my confederate flag is as nonsensical as telling you to put away your Nazi swastika flag.

reply

If you don't like the writing, directing, story or acting in Mulan, then all you need to do is address that. You and the OP are the ones who brought up gender and race.

BTW, your previous dog whistles don't fool anyone.

reply

Dog whistles lol. One of my favourites.

If it walks like a duck...

Yawn

Haha! Nice!

I do often wonder if sexist and racist people ever bother to look at the perspectives of those they feel entitled to have more privilege than. And so I often try to understand how they can feel so entitled. I fail to see it. What are they offering that makes them feel they deserve more from the world?

reply

And I wonder if those who casually label others as racist and sexist have the perspective to realize that such accusations can also be a construct o self- entitlement. If privilege (opportunity) is not doled out all nice and evenly, then it's assumed it must be a symptom of "racism or sexism". For every female filmmaker who was not hired, the white male filmmakers who were also not hired goes unnoticed since it sabotages the sexism/racism faux-accusations. It's not a question of being more deserving, whether they feel it or not. It's because life is not fair

reply

And you long to keep it that way in your favour.

reply

I don't long for it ( I have other things on my mind). People really need to get perspective of they think everything is going to change so quickly in the relatively short- time we have become a modern-society, if it changes at all. The key-word for some issues is ''acceptance''.

reply

Of course, you long to keep the status quo because you're defending it. Obviously, you do have the subject on your mind since you took the time to type a reply.

reply

No because the white man aren't the ones complaining when a woman does it. I just despise quota checkboxes in order to supposedly make a good movie. If I were a misogynist as you proclaim, I wouldn't even watch pro-feminist shows like Wonder Woman or play pro-feminist games like The Last of Us, Tomb Raider, etc.

Almost everything to you sounds entitled, privileged, racist, and misogynistic. I get it, school has trained you well in the liberal sphere. You're sounding more and more further left by the day. I wouldn't be surprised if you started supporting Bernie from your complaints of him before.

reply

"If I were a misogynist as you proclaim, I wouldn't even watch pro-feminist shows like Wonder Woman or play pro-feminist games like The Last of Us, Tomb Raider, etc."

LOL. Are some of your best friends black, too? You're so clueless.

"I just despise quota "
If a woman is hired then it's a quota? And you wonder why I call you a misogynist.

"school has trained you well in the liberal sphere."
Obviously, you never went to college if you believe they are all liberal.

"you started supporting Bernie "
Biden/Harris 2020!

It’s just that we’ve come to expect crap when a movie is directed by a woman and written by a woman. There’s never any deviation from this time tested formula.

reply

I haven't seen this version. But wasn't the father already a war veteran with a fairly high rank? He probably would have been put in a strategic role rather than being on the ground fighting. There are plenty of real-life Generals who would fail the basic army fitness requirements.

reply

Don't think it mattered in the case of the movie, high rank or not, at least not even to the commanders demanding that every family send one male child to the cause. Even after he fell due to his bad leg, the commander didn't even say anything and just accepted it after he stood back up. The general though may have different thoughts if he learned he only had 2 daughters and was a cripple. Most likely would've either sent him home or given some strategic role as you said. Would make sense seeing how everyone else were all young fighting men (excluding the leaders/trainers).

Seeing how strict Chinese parents usually are, I would've thought the dad would've scolded her if not spanked her for disobeying him or dishonoring the family by taking his role (head family and only male) away from his duty to the country/emperor. That is of course if she returned without the general commending her thereafter when she returned home.

reply

Didn't this movie have white producers? I thought that was one of the complaints

reply

Who cares? The movie sucked regardless of the identity politics complaints.
