Who was the woman Susan spoke to on the phone?

I was a little confused by the scene in which Susan (Amy Adams) calls that young woman on the 'phone.

In case you forgot, in the scene, the woman is lying in bed, naked, with her back to the camera, and she is obviously very tired when answering the 'phone.

From the way the two were talking to each other, it sounded like a mother speaking to a daughter, or two siblings talking. Who was that character, exactly, and who was the actress who played her?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

That was her daughter. They were also played by the same actress, I think.

What do you mean? Are you saying that the daughter was also played by Amy Adams?

I think the commenter meant the actress who played India (the daughter in the book) also played Susan's daughter. However, it was under my impression that the daughter in real life never existed and it was a dream/hallucination of Susan's based off her guilt towards the abortion.

They're not: Susan's daughter Samantha is played by India Menuez, and Laura's daughter India(!) is played by Ellie Bamber. There is however a distinct (and clearly intentional) likeness between the two actresses, in the same way that the film plays on the likeness between the actresses playing the mothers (Adams and Fisher).

whilst reading the book she imagined her own real life daughter being in the situation India was in and India's was visualised as being similar to herself but not actually the same as like anyone reading this story she would feel that she would have handled it differently if she was there. The tony character was always visualised by Susan as Edward as she knew he always wrote about himself.

she was reassuring herself the next day by calling her real daughter after becoming disturbed by the fate of the fictional character. Her daughter was quite dismissive during the call indicating that she had not got the best relationship with her, possibly like Susan and her real mum, as she had clearly got wrapped up in a superficial life that most younger people start off intending not to replicate.
