What I think happened at the end

He poisoned her. The director gave us a few close-ups of the glass she was drinking from. And after she took a last sip she stared, almost as if she felt it kicking in, with a worry and realisation in her eyes, then the movie finished. Maybe her drink was poisoned and she fell flat on the table straight afterward.

It mighy not be that deep. Edward didn't seem like a killer. Maybe he just wanted her to feel what he felt during the breakdown of their marriage. And after he stood her up at the restuarant, his job was complete.

(But i prefer the poison ending ;)

Nice theory. At first I thought he had just stood her up but now I think k about it I think he committed suicide. The story he wrote for her was the suicide note.

I think you're right about the latter - he wanted her to know that his love for her was dead, like their unborn baby she terminated. Either that or he got stuck in traffic with no mobile signal.

I like your ending idea, but I don't think it's what they were going for because she picked the restaurant where they were going to meet up. If he had chosen it we could presume he picked a place where he had an easy way to poison her, like a connection with the bartender or something? And since they hadn't spoken in 19 years there's no way he could have know 'her drink' and just poisoned what she would order. Maybe I'm missing something though?
