What's your problem? It's art.

How insecure do you need to be to make this post?

It is growth, then decay, then transformation.

Yes - absolutely nothing to contribute except evidence of their stupidity. One has to trawl through this dreck to find worthwhile posts with insights about the film.

Funny enough, when I went to go see the movie again last Wednesday, there was a somewhat heated debate about the opening of the movie between a group of older viewers. The women were in favor of the opening scene whereas the men shared views similar to your own.

If you don't get why the film opens up with that (as I suspect you probably don't understand a lot of things as "disgusting" isn't spelled with a "q"), the women are the theme of the film come to life. Susan and Tony/Edward are people burdened by their failures in life and their needs to hide away and become "perfect" people in their own points of view or the points of view of people who have affected them in one way or another. The women realize that is a fantasy and a lie that will never truly fulfill them and they instead embrace their larger size and tell the world that this is who they are and nothing will stop them from being themselves.

Them dressing as figures of Americana is more of Tom Ford's little wink and nudge of the reality of life: we all want to look like Amy Adams or Jake Gyllenhaal dressed in nothing but "Miss" sashes and band epithets but we are those women and it's better to accept our flaws rather than find new ways to emphasize them.

There's a difference between a differing opinion and a forced one.
