Shouldn't they have had gallons of this stuff by the bucket load and in sprays instead of tiny tubes

In the book they explain that it has to be rubbed into the exposed skin if you spray it on and miss a tiny section then you get munched. The clothes, etc. are pre-treated with it already.

This doesnt really make any sense though, as even rubbing it on you you will miss parts (its kind of the reason why surgeons have a semi ritualistic hand washing procedure for example).

Bit even if you do manage to rub it on 100% of your exposed skinm you will still give off a lot of scent through your orifices, and as soon as you do anything, you will start to sweat, which will run the paste off of you.
