Something I don't quite get.. *spoilers*

So the source of food for the zombies and zombpeeps (the human like ones) were uninfected.. cats.. dogs etc.. so at the end the girl set the fire which let off the spores which made anyone and I assume anything breathing infected.. they didn't eat each other.. what did they then eat? Wouldn't they starve? (they didnt make clear that animals can be infected or not but assuming its a fungus that attacks the brain i cant see why it wouldnt)

The zombies you see just standing around have been that way for upwards of 13 years. And Melanie is immune to gas and a superhuman who only needs to take a breath every quarter hour because fungus.

The TL:DR is that the zombie virus is magic. Like all zombie viruses :D That explains any oddities about how they can function.

The fungus strain was a specific one that only affected humans; just like there are many different existing strains that affect ants and other insects currently. So other animals wouldn't be infected, just humans.

You can't? There are lots of diseases and fungi attacking various species and leaving others alone.

Since we don't see any zombie animals it does make it pretty likely that the fungi only spreads in humans.
If they couldn't find enough mamals to eat they could always dig for worms and insects.

Technically the zombies are still alive. They aren't like the traditional zombies who come back from the dead.

They are growing older, supported by the fungus. Their metabolism rate is much slower thanks to the fungus also, so they don't eat as often. They are hibernation mode when they are standing around.

It's a cool little twist on the zombie story imo.
