What were her gifts exacty?

She's smart and zombies won't eat her but I wouldn't call that ALL THE GIFTS.

reply

She is (supposedly) super humanly intelligent, functionally "immune" to the zombie virus, superhumanly strong and durable.

Admittedly it doesnt come out too much in the film.

LOL

I was wondering the same thing. I did really enjoy the movie though (aside from the last scene), it was refreshingly different and well thought out.

i was mentioning this movie (i thought it was a decent flick) to a friend the other day and she asked me what exactly the girl's gifts were and it struck me that i had no idea. LOL. i never read the book but in the movie the only "gift" type aspects of Melanie that i can see (i'm probably off on this) is she retained much of human/non-zombie traits (communicating/reasoning/etc.) and that she was also a born leader type of person (she seems in control, for the most part, of the other zombie children) but i guess that only zombies would consider those traits (in that zombie world) to be gifts.

I always thought that the title was just a reference to the story of Pandora --> Pandora releases all the bad things from her box = Melanie releases everything evil by burning the pods; Pandora at last releases hope from her box = Melanie sees hope for a new world at the end when she tries to have Helen teach the "new zombie humans" the old stories/values/knowledge.

Bingo!

My brother was eaten by wolves on the CT Turnpike

reply

Yup that's my thought as well. She opens the box and brings destruction but also hope.
Then one could look at it more literal as well and see that she has many gifts compared to a regular human. Better sense of smell, better processing of oxygen, better metabolism. And she personally is also gifted by high intelligence.

There is no such thing as too much time

The title is a reference to Pandora. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I read the book. In the book, the story of Pandora is mentioned and referenced periodically. Melanie's story mirrors Pandora's in some ways, and in the book Melanie says that if she could have chosen a name for herself, she would have chosen Pandora. The meaning of the name is "the girl with all the gifts".

reply

Pandora = Pan (All), Douron/doroun (gifts)

she with all the gifts. the title does not refer to Melanie necessarily, but to Pandora herself.

reply

She knew the door number.

reply

I thought Gemma was the girl with all the gifts 
