I can't give specific plot details as I've signed a NDA, and studio legal dept threatened me before to remove posts for other previews I've seen (though I don't know how they can find me as I use a different email account here than the one they send me invitations for), but I do have high praise for the movie so I'm sure studio doesn't mind good word of mouth. If you have questions I'll try to answer in general terms without giving away spoilers.

I think she is a shoo-in for a nom, a more than good chance she will win the Oscar, I obviously don't know who will be nominated this year, but I liken her performance with Faye Dunaway in Network.

It's really not about gun control. It could have been any political issue. It's about how Lobbyists control the issues, not the politicians or the public.

Amy set the tone for the first five episodes of The Office, she was everything Pam (Jenna Fischer) was not. Without her Pam and Jim's ongoing relationship would not have worked. Of course Steve Carrell's Six Million Dollar Man routine was difficult to follow but Amy pulled it off. Amy looks so angelic, I bet she's anything but behind closed doors.
Of course Jessie takes a backseat to no one. The opening five minutes of The Tree of Life is perhaps the most difficult scene she's ever had too pull off and she nailed it. Terrence Malik's announcement of the arrival of a major talent.
My money is on Chastain. Amy has a much more subtle role in Arrival (haven't seen Nocturnal Animals), she's great, but Jessica is simply stunning in this movie, a tour de force. Arrival and Miss Sloan are the 2 best films I've seen this year.

Amy has paid her dues and deserves to be feted. Not to take anything away from Jessie, I haven't seen either film yet. But I'm a fan of Quebec Director Denis Villeneuve, I'll be watching Arrival at the theater. And the praise for La La Land smacks of mendacity to me. Whiplash was the best film of 2014, I seriously doubt La La Land is as good.
The Academy has a reputation for major *beep* ups, in 2000, Julia Roberts won over Ellen Burnstyn (Requiem for a Dream).
I don't believe that any performance by an actress this year will reach the top of the mountain. Currently, IMHO, there are two actresses the hold the pinnacle for best performance of the century: Marion Cotillard (La Mome) and Brie Larson (Room).
Inception is the best film of this century, Nolan loved La Mome.
