I came here just for that answer. Deep in my heart and how I was raised I'm going with no.

You can protest it all you want and call me unamerican but nobody blows out the candles on their birthday muffin.

Well they have savoury muffins. But with a lot of the sweet ones it's difficult to judge the difference between them and cake.

We used to go to Perkins for breakfast, and my wife would get a turtle muffin with her breakfast. This was a chocolate muffin with caramel on top. I tried to tell her she was eating a cop cake for breakfast, but she insisted it was a muffin.
