Neither article is released by the filmmakers.

And of course the movie is pro-gun control -- it's just presented in a rational way in the movie. Just like the position of the gun lobby has its merit. It's just as convincing to Elizabeth Sloane because she loves to win and she knows fighting in favor of the bill is the tougher fight and she loves to win an uphill battle. She gets off on it.

If you don't want to watch the movie and draw your own personal opinion on a comment board, perhaps you just stop pilfering random articles from the web or stop participating in a discussion you are informed about. I once read an article on the internet about a woman who had 18 children at one time. And it's on the web, so it must be a fact, right?
