No a pro gun control film

Gun control pretty much acts as a backdrop. There's so much more too it.

If you had to compare it to another 'Corporate America' movie, is it closer to Michael Clayton or Thank You For Smoking?

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

reply

I'd say closer to Michael Clayton. TYFS was a dark comedy, Miss Sloan is not.

it rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again

reply

I'd say closer to Runaway Jury or The American President

Aaahh mikeyflatley - long time no see. I've been avoiding these boards for some years, due to the low intelligence of so many users - along with the hatred and abuse that they spout. To see you on here ....... what can I say. Having criticized you in the past, seeing your post today was like a beacon of light (and intelligence) amongst a cavernous expanse of neverending dross and ineptitude - even if you do insist on talking like a black man's text on a mobile phone

And yet the populations of the cities with the highest murder rates voted overwhelmingly for HC....

I'm starting to get the sneaking suspicion Hollywood isn't being quite so forthright with us! 😜

reply

so why is this the movie the NRA doesn't want you to see?

reply

Having seen the film I suspect that the NRA doesn't want you to see it, because the film is more an expose of how the lobbying industry operates.

It's not an anti gun film at all and there are parts of the film that actually make a good case for having guns. But the story isn't about guns it's about lobbying and two firms competing over the same bill. IT could have been a bill about anything really.

But the NRA won't want people to see this because they use those lobbying firms and it shows how they pressure Senators to vote in certain ways and what an underhand and corrupting influence on American democracy lobbyists really are - whether pro or anti a bill supporting gun control.

I'm sure there are lots of industries out there that won't want you to see it.

You people seem to think that NRA members are faceless corporations. The fact is that the NRA is over 5 million INDIVIDUALS dead-set against any more useless gun control laws. We have over 20,000 federal gun control laws, but that isn't enough for you people.

I am the NRA.

reply

Anybody who calls this a "pro gun control movie" are probably the same ones who are paranoid of the government taking their guns away.

reply

Seemed to me like an anti-Congress movie, using Congressional lobbyists to score Constitutional points, almost nothing to do with gun control unless that's what you already have on your mind, in which case you'll completely miss the value of the movie. Why pay for a movie about gun control when once a month like clockwork the news media is full of it? The fact that Congress fails to do its job on almost every issue that comes before it, because Congress is beholden to lobbyists, is worth more than one movie. I'd pay to see several made in this vein.

reply

It has been tried many times. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes not. Don't pretend no one is trying to take guns away.

reply

Some simple facts:

1) Gun control groups bragged about being consulted and having input on the the script and more. Not one gun rights group was consulted......

2) This film is so deceptive that even the WaPo observed that most of the gun laws proposed in the film are already on the books.

This film was intended to help "tee up" new gun control laws for Hillary Clinton to push after her election. Of course, that went as well as this film......
