Hard to do a sequel after 30 years, but it was great

A few small things held this back, but it was a ton of fun. A HUGE step up from the 2016 shitfest.I did have issue with the kids not knowing about the 1984 incident, which was just stupid. An event like that would have been taught in schools, and had books and movies about it. Other than that, it's small things, but overall this is an excellent sequel, particularly given how much time has passed.

Not a sequel. It’s more like a spin-off/reboot.

No, it's a direct sequel. You obviously haven't seen it.

reply

Nah, it’s a reboot that retcons a lot of basic stuff from the original. Like trying to say Star Trek 2009 is a “direct sequel.” More like reboot disguised as sequel.

NO...BURK IS RIGHT.

Yeah sure seemed like a sequel to Ghostbusters 1 to me.

Well in California hippie culture area that type of educating wouldn't have been taught.

Lol, I get your point, but they still have the internet.

I think Trevor was more into cars to go into knowledge of the ghostbusters. Phoebe is into discovering her own things. Although I think in the sequel she will again get instructions from the electronic area.

I ended up being a bit disappointed by this film, but overall for me it did what it was supposed to do.

*some spoilers ahead*

It was a nice little nostalgia trip. I really enjoyed the first hour, but then when they started to go “Force Awakens” and recycle the plot of the original film it started to lose me. I also really wish they would have used the original characters more than they did. I understand they are 70 years old, but they could have been a LOT more involved. The selling point to me was that they were going to be back. So that was a bummer. At least, unlike “The Force Awakens”, their scenes were mostly together. My biggest complaint is probably Ray not believing Egon. That is way out of character.

Even with my gripes, I was entertained, and had some good laughs. The young girl who played Phoebe did a really good job. I liked the tribute to Harold Ramis. And it was great to see the original Ghostbusters back, even at their age.

I don’t know if my opinion will change over the next few weeks or not, but that is my initial reaction after seeing it tonight. It could have been better, but it was decent, and it was entertaining.

More of a legacy sequel than a direct sequel, to do a direct sequel it needed to be made way back in the 90's otherwise a new movie would be a straight sequel, if there 15 years between Ghostbusters 2 and Ghostbusters 3 you have to say something about it, it's going to be obvious that Ghostbusters 3 isn't a direct continuation of Ghostbusters 2, you need to say something like why all the main characters 15 years older , but 15 years didn't pass between Ghostbusters movies 30 years had, usually between movies it's a lot shorter.
