Almost as bad as 'To Rome with Love' (which I found unwatchable)

Sure, this has great cinematography, but the plot is one of Allen's weakest.

A love triangle between three not so interesting people and a subplot involving a stupid gangaster who kills his mother's neighbour over playing loud music. I was like 'that's the best you could come up with?'

A throw away Woody Allen, just like Irrational Man, Magic in the Moonlight and To Rome with Love. It does not deserve a fresh rating on RT.

(Well, maybe the first 25 minutes do)

The three 'not so interesting people': one is a bigshot Hollywood producer cheating on his wife, another is his naive nephew wh turns into a confidant, glad-handing impressario, and their love interest is a sexy young girl who teases each of them with the kind of companionship they each desire. She is one thing to the producer, another to the nephew. Was very interesting to me.

Irrational Man and Magic in the Moonlight were not throwaways - at least there were ideas and plot twists in those films. Cafe Society, however, IS a throwaway.

FYI, The plot of Irrational Man is almost identical to Crime and Punishment. It's a good serious film.
