Is this actually as good as it is rated?
Or is it another overrated anime like Attack on Titan that everyone just hyped up just because everyone else would talk about it and without even watching other animes that deserve better praise?

share1) Yes;
2) Attack on Titan isn't overrated;
that everyone just hyped up just because everyone else would talk about it
I can't say anything about OPM yet because I haven't seen it but AoT is very overrated.
shareFor an anime, especially a newer one, yes it is that good. It's very enjoyable, and the amount of artist and animators hired to create the anime is astounding. That really shows the quality of the show.
Story-wise, like Attack on Titan, it's very quick and it's mostly "monsters of the week". So it's not the best story telling ever.
Character-wise, each individual character is very humorous, very odd, and show unique personalities, usually in a satirical way.
Action-wise, only Fate/Zero and Unlimited Bladeworks has it beat in action, but by an inch. The action displayed in this series is incredible and entertaining.
It's a show with very few low points, usually the story telling suffers the most. This show could end at being under 9 but as of now, it's not that mainstream. If it did go mainstream, not many people will understand the humor that much and drop it to about 8.5.
A show that doesn't deserve it's rating is Dragon Ball Super. 8.5 now with over 2,000 votes. Slowly becoming mainstream again. It started with 9.8 for several months and people voted it that high despite the first few episodes being lackluster.

I love DB and it'll always have a special place in my heart, but I agree, as a true fan, that DBS doesn't deserve that rating. I wish they put more effort into making new quality stories.
Sounds good, I love the action of the Fate series and it is hard to beat. Still though, from what you're telling me it doesn't sound like it deserves a 9.4 but I guess I have to check it out to know for sure.
Definitely give it a look. the first episode helps establish what kind of world it is, and the second episode is what completely hooked me. I was completely surprised by the quality of humor, animation, and character development in that single episode. Don't expect a very intricate story to follow it, because it immediately falls flat after the third episode. You'd be expecting an enemy who will put on a series of conflicts, but it doesn't.

Definitely not overrated! Also, Attack on Titan is not overrated as well - it is an awesome show - however the movie sucks so much.
Do you even go to this school?
No.. I just have a lot of feelings..
Ok go home
What types of characters development did you see in AoT? Whag about it makes it better than other animes that are rated bellow a 9 but above an 8 on IMDb?
sharethe unique plot, the evolution and back story of almost all the leads, the fast pacing, the underlying mystery behind the titans that make each episode feel like a cliffhanger...I can't wait for the next season...please don't watch the live action movie though

The plot was unique but that doesn't mean it's good, Super Baby Geniuses and Jupiter Ascending had unique plots and those movies are horrible. What character evolution? All the characters besides the ones that died are at the same place they were in development as in the beginning of the series. I hardly care about any of them and they are all so boring. What about their characters make them so special from other animes to make the show deserve such a high rating?

The show isn't bad by any stretch but you're right. This suffers the fate all popular animes do of having inflated ratings.
The early episodes really hammer in the point that the show is a parody/satire comedy, but after realizing the show has no where to go with just the simple premise of a "one punch man", it introduces a lame plot element. This plot element being the hero academy or whatever its called. The show then becomes a blur, riding the line between genuineness and parody. Eventually, the parody element is eliminated altogether with the season ending after a 3 episode fight (a quarter of the season).
The parody although funny at times are not necessarily very clever. I challenge people who haven't watched the show yet to write a list of things you would expect from an anime parody. Chances are at least half will be ticked off in this show. Despite this, the screenplay is the strongest aspect of the show. I guess some could argue the animation or siq fight scenes are the highlight of the show, but they don't know what they're talking about.
The plot is almost non existent. The show exists purely on its premise of a "one punch man", its label as a parody show and its "cool" fight scenes. Whats incredible about this show is that almost half of the show's total run time is dedicated purely to establishing the various antagonists. Which is completely baffling because as a parody, we all know the monster will inevitably get defeated by a single punch by our protagonist. The show attempts to create conflict by trying to make the lack of a conflict the point of conflict itself. Basically, Twilight has a better narrative than this show.
By the very nature that it is a parody, the characters are incredibly boring. The main protagonist is just a mix of various popular anime characters with his sidekick representing the cliche, angsty, "cool" anime character". Again, rather than being dumpstered, the show gets away with this because it establishes itself as a parody in the first 2-3 episodes.
Also, AOT is not only overrated, its a flat out bad show. While One Punch Man is also overrated, i think its worth watching a few episodes. You can stop after they introduce the "Hero Academy" plot device or you can continue watching it thinking it'll return to its initial tone/atmosphere.
Bravo I agree with this 100 per cent but I still am enjoying the show. Having not seen much Anime I never realise that it was an out and out parody, although it is obviously takin gthe mick out of superheroes etc.
i still am enjoying it, but yeah it is getting repetitive and the Hero association doesnt make sense. In a world of YouTube and camera phones, Saitama would already be known and revered as the top hero alive.
Yes. It's that good.
Get to watch it, hipster!
I also was attracted by the high ratings and people saying that it is genuinely a great show.
I just watched the first four episodes and it is really boring and even lame.
The review posted above by hoonmaster is on point.
Even though the show is obviously established as a comedy that is supposed to parody animes, it is doing a very bad job.
There are few funny moments but that's it. It truly isn't as clever as people claim around here.
I wouldn't recommend watching it but to each his own.
Attack on Titan didn't live up to the hype for me either but this show is great.
shareIt's better!
