Waiting for an English dubbed version?
Don't like subs
shareDubbed animes are stupid and a lot of the story gets lost in translation.
shareNot really. I thought Death Note dubbed was as great as the Japanese version.
shareIt really depends on the "localization", it's very different from "translation" where they can just straight up translate word-for-word even for jokes that doesn't translate or make sense with native english speakers.
For example, in the new Dr.Strange movie, there's a scene:
Kaecilius: "How long have you been in Kamar-Taj, mister...?"
Strange: "it's doctor"
Kaecilius: "Mister Doctor"
Strange: "it's Strange"
Kaecilius: "Maybe....but who am I to judge."
This joke would be impossible to translate and make sense in chinese or japanese since they use "mister" at the end so "mister Strange" would be "Strange xian sheng" in chinese or "Strange san" in japanese.
Further more they don't have the practice of asking for people's name by saying "mister..?". People usually ask for names in chinese by saying "gui xing?", straight translation "what's your surname?". Or "zheme chenghu?" > "how should I address you?".
A "localization" team would completely change the joke into something that works and make sense to the intended audience or just delete the scene all together. Subs and straight translations are only good for people that already know something about the culture and language, or at least the syntax and grammar.
For everyone else, a "localized" dubbed version is better and more enjoyable. People should really stop bashing dubbed versions every time it's mentioned, it only makes them seem like an elitist *beep*
So true, on Netflix if you switched to dubbed and put English subtitles, the sentences or words are always off.
A show 'Durarara' is crazy off with the subtitles....
Like to the point, yes the story gets lost.... Like o wouldn't even know they said that because stupid dubbed shorts it or changes it completely....
A lot of the story gets lost in translation from the Japanese original to the English subtitles, or even from the manga to the anime. In the end, just watch what you want.
