Emelie's plan from the start...

She accidentally smothered her child.

She covered this up.

She then moved to another state and city(said by her).

Scouted potential kids that would be her son's age now and kidnap the boy and brainwash him into thinking Emelie is his mother.

The youngest boy was the "Cubby".

And to clear things up that people seem confused about...

EMELIE HAD TWO ACCOMPLICES..

The start of the movie they pull up to Anna the babysitter and ask for directions...Emelie was in the backseat-Accomplice #1 was driving and Accomplice #2 ran up behind Anna and snatched her up.

..so..Emelie at the end of the movie has potential to get away if her other accomplice shows up eventually to give her a ride.

You're right about the two accomplices, but... At the beginning, the passenger side of the car appeared vacant, so Emelie had to be the one driving, and the hired thug was used for the snatch n grab (and the T-bone special later).

The mystery guy with glasses always keeps his distance from real action but I'm sure he'll either scoop her back up or hire another gutterpunk to do stuff for them.

I just know I sure as hell will watch the sequel if Bolger reprises the role.

Wait, maybe there were 3 accomplices??? I just remembered there was someone else in the house looking out of the window when Emelie was being picked up for babysitting. It looked like some older woman looking out of the window from behind the curtains. Or maybe that was the freak with the glasses and I didn't get a good look at him, but I swear it looked like an older lady.

Oh, well.

There was only one accomplice, the guy with the glasses. If you watched it carefully, Emelie was sitting in front of I assume Anne's house(the real babysitter) or some random house when the dad came to pick her up. She said bye mom, and that lady looked out of the window to see whats happening.
