Why not have hired Russell Brand to play the James Franco character. The character was so much like Russell Brand in films (Get Him To The Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Arthur)

For gawds sake Jonah Hill (Get Him To The Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) must have secretly had him mind when he kind off helped come up with the idea and co produced this film

Then James Franco said he needed a film project to display his paintings., and everyone felt obliged to cast him

Is Brands career finished in the US?, I notice he is taking ad revenue for the Trews on Youtube

Brand's career is finished everywhere. His 'one trick pony' schtick is a decade past its sell-by date now.

The film was appalling enough with Franco in the lead - I can't imagine how much worse it would have been with Russell Brand playing Russell Brand (again, and again, and again).
