That was pushing it. At that point he didn't know the plane was going down due to the pilot being shot. Not that it mattered, he couldn't land it on his own...but with the help of Clare, maybe.
Okay I get it's not realistic but i'll put out some points anyway :
1- Even if he could have land the plane, the bad guy would have escaped and The Player would have lost the game. It's all in or fold, The House gave him 1 hour.
2- He was ex special forces in the army before becoming a security consultant, he had experience in sky diving.
To me, The Player is a replacement of Strike Back. I enjoy thinking that Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester) retired from Section 20 and left for Las Vegas.
Strike Back was full of unrealistic action but it reminded me of old cheesy action flicks which I quite enjoy.
I'm just glad it's not another boring melodrama with metrosexual hipsters talking while looking pensive at each other. I'm tired of shows that are all talk and NO ACTION.
One show on network that's actually ACTION-centric and people on this board act like it's the end of the world.
I love The Player. I might even check out Strike Back.
If you love The Player, you will definitely love Strike Back. It has crazy budget for the action and each season takes you to a different country over the world.
But i should just clarify that the first season is like a mini-series with Richard Armitage and Andrew Lincoln as main characters. You can skip this one if you want since the Season 2 is a whole new team.
The second and rest of the seasons has Phillip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton as main characters, their chemistry is really what makes the show awesome.
The plots are often massive terrorist attack so the whole season is them trying to prevent that. It's crazy non-stop action.

I would add that the episode seemed to be a bit of an homage to Point Break, featuring the audacious robbery crew in strange masks, the philosophical leader, and the skydive without a parachute pursuit.
I thought it was ridiculous that he was able to remove the parachute from the other guy and put it on himself while simultaneously holding on to the other guy. This seems like it would be difficult for even a trained sky diver
