Support this movie and make erotic cinema legit again...

do your duty.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

reply

I am doing my best...but where are all these movies?...seems like with the half a billion dollars 50 Shades made at the box office, someone would have picked up the slack?

reply

Isundling will not agree with me--she has a ban of even talking to me (which is a shame, because I honestly like her)--but there is clearly a market for this type of movie, but it has to be A GOOD MOVIE. Obviously the FSoG series is not good, despite what isundling says. The first movie was horrible, and the sequels will probably be equally as awful.

What we need is a great director (not the morons from FSoG and isundling's recommendations) to actually want to make a great movie about this subject?

When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading!

reply

Brian..Brian..Brian...did you not read my reply to your previous post?..there is no ban on you..I said I enjoyed our backs and forths...and will miss them dearly..I had no suggestions for any directors at all..in fact, my post was.."where are all the good erotic romances"?...

reply

Okay Isundling, maybe I overreacted, but I seriously thought you had a vendetta against me and Mya! You might hate us, but honestly, we don't hate you! We love all opinions--even if they are in favor of ridiculous movies like FSoG!

I am against films like this that support abuse and rape, sorry but this stalker forced her into this and knew a victim when he saw one.

"Always two there are , a master and an apprentice"

reply

"Knew a victim when he saw one". That is literally the best summary of the series.

reply

Real men do not stalk, abuse or rape the person they love, Christian Grey is a sick man who women are attracted to only due to his looks and wealth. If a poor person with average looks had the same traits and sick nature women would find him to be a vile piece of dog crap that deserves to be in prison or better yet put down.

"Always two there are , a master and an apprentice"

reply

Well...I agree to one thing you said..If a poor person with averaged looks had the same traits and sick nature etc...there would have been no best selling books written nor box office bonanza movies made.problem solved...who wants to read/watch real life?..not me...see enough of that every day on the news..and by the way...there is no rape in this movie.

reply

You bet. One of the few 50 Shades clips I saw featured Christian opening a sock drawer, in which all his socks were neatly folded and arranged in rows, like eggs in a carton, and also coordinated by color. It was almost identical to a scene in another movie: a biopic about a serial killer who raped and murdered women. Go figure.

...

Requiescat in pace Pete Postlethwaite.

Was Anastasia raped in the books or movies?

reply

Perhaps I would "do my duty"--halfheartedly--if I could be convinced that this is a gateway movie. My duty would be to support movies that feature honest, erotic, healthy femdom; erotic cinema in which women take charge, and overpower/dominate men, and consent to a Mistress/slave lifestyle or a female-led relationship.

But I wouldn't support such a movie if it were about a woman brutally abusing a man. And 50 Shades is really just a story about abuse.

Uh...look again...those were neckties that were in that drawer, not socks...and he picks the Grey one the morning he meets Ana..and it is the tie he uses to tie her wrists the morning after...and she notices he is wearing that same tie at graduation and tells him "nice tie" and he says "it has become one of my favorites".

I would if it was an actual erotic movie that was not based on stalking and abuse. Or portayed the BDSM lifestyle in any kind of accurate fashion.

reply

Again...we never see Christian with a submissive, engaging in BDSM.

reply

You use the ellipsis because EL James does in her book.

In Darker and Freed, we don't see a submissive but we definitely do see more abuse and stalking.

reply

Yes...I mentioned that in the book Grey, we read about Christian's point of view...which we don't hear about in 50 Shades...and tell me the pages in those two books that has stalking and abuse...they get back together within the first chapter...and he won't go back to the Red Room...until Ana requests it.several times.

reply

Grey...watch the movie.
He tracks her phone, tells her how to dress and what to eat.
Breaks into her house to have sex with her
Beats her

Darker...
he buys the company she's working at
He gets made for being nice to Taylor, says it's "flirting"
She says she needs time after Christian tells the truth about being a sadistic, he doesn't listen then proceeds to have sex with her and give her what she wants by letting Ana "touch" him
Plays off how it's okay that he bathed an exgirlfriend.
He thinks Ana would be willing to cheat on him with Jose even though she constantly says they are just friends
He blackmails past submissives so they don't talk

Freed...
Humiliates her because she goes topless at a beach by buying jewelry to cover up the markings
He gets mad at her for going back to work
Ana has to ask permission to go out with her friend Kate
The whole thing about how Ana wasn't at home when jack was there to kidnap her and how she should have been there. What the hell was that about?
He abuses her until she uses the safe word then makes her feel guilty
When her dad is in the hospital, she holds Jose's hand because she is scared and worried about what will happen but Christian makes it about jealousy.
His relationship with Robinson is weird, uncalled for and instead of talking to his wife about his feelings, he runs to his child molester.
Yells at her for getting pregnant, was he not using condoms either?
Assumes she is leaving him for his money.

Did you not read the books? Christian Grey is a severely damaged man. Ana loves him in spite of and because his damaged soul calls to her. She's broken too. This story is about how two damaged people fall in love and despite everything, manage to make the relationship work.

Yes, Christian has problems, but Ana's problems mirror his. Because of that, they both need each other. Together, they manage to make each other whole. Yes, it's unconventional, but at the end it's just a beautiful love story. That's why the books were so successful, even if they were badly written, and I expect the sequels to do equally as well. It also helped jump start both of their careers.

Jamie constantly gets a bad rap about his acting, but you have to understand the character he portrays. He's spot on, and as the sequels come out I think people will see that.

His new film's are fabulous and I honestly think he's going to have a fabulous career.

A lot of abusers were abused as children themselves, so this "poor Christian he a rough childhood" excuse is getting old!

Plus when you have to defend Jamie's acting by saying read the book, then you've already lost your point, Jamie's portrayal should have stood on its own feet and appealed to people who didn't read the book!

reply

I read all three books and saw majority of the movie.

Having a terrible childhood doesn't excuse humiliating, abusing and being an *beep* to others.

Jamie went into this franchise knowing that it sold how many copies? Millions? And he couldn't even fake it for the fans. He bits the hand that feeds him.FSOG made Jamie well-known. I thought Dakota did okay in the film but at least she puts worth an effort.

Instead of taking responsibility, Christian blames Ana.

reply

Christian has never had a girlfriend...ever..and he is Ana's first true boyfriend...what can come out of that?...about what we read/watched...Christian's therapist, Dr. Flynn, tells Ana that Christian never had a normal teenage experience...at 15 he became a Sub to an older woman...he is doing what he knows..and it has always worked...the difference this time???..Ana is not a contractual Sub, and he knows that, but thinks he can change her or that it will work itself out.....but it didn't..I wished they had kept the ending of the book for the movie..Christian is crushed..as is Ana..it had much more impact for me.hopefully they will show that at the beginning of Darker.

And the latest interview I read, Jamie said it was so much easier this time...they knew each other, they both felt more comfortable... and knew what to expect...and the first movie made tons of money, so that pressure was off..and maybe the new director and screen writer helped too..he felt really good about the filming..so we shall see.

reply

What comes out of that is a controlling, manipulative and abusive relationship. Even though he says "he'll try", he doesn't put the effort to give Ana space. He wants her to change, she wants him to change. You defend the relationship with Elena like its normal.

People have come out and said that Christian is like their abusive boys friends, what do you say to that? They are making that up?

There's a sickening thought.

I'm all for making erotic cinema legit again but it has to be a good product to me to support it and this doesn't fall under that category for me.
I like it when erotic cinema is done with style, beauty and class.
Movies like Young Lady Chatterley and some of the old school Playboy/Showtime/Cinemax after hours programming.
