After episode 4, it started to get really stupid...(SPOILERS)

Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this series and I'm glad it was made, but there were some strange choices made by the writing department after episode 4.

So there's the escaped convict bikie, he gets picked up by some guys and taken to the town of Rome that Eve happens to be in. The problem here is that she has a whole new identity there, a job, everyone knows her in the town and she even has a best friend that wants her to be a bridesmaid/maid of honour at her wedding. That whole scenario makes it seems like she's been there for a while, weeks or even months. Yet the escaped convict guy is still wandering around in the outback with a bloody bandage on his arm. So they're implying that he's just been wandering around in the Australia Outback with a serious injury for at least a few weeks. That is absolutely ridiculous. A huge mistake by the writing department.

Later on, our favourite cop turns up to save the day and Eve says "Why are you doing this for me?", stupid girl, it's not just for you, he's trying to take down one of the biggest serial killers of all time.
Anyway, so this genius cop decides to go straight for Mick, walking right towards a truck with it's lights on, and then he ends up getting stabbed. Yep, that's what happens when you're an idiot, it was either get stabbed from behind or get run over, those were his 2 options at that point.

Then there was the whole scene with the bikers, where nobody knew how to aim a gun properly and Eve ends up saved at the very last second, that was a bit of a lame cliched moment.
Then escaped convict biker guy tries to get lucky with Eve, and he almost does, but she turns him down and decides to take some painkillers instead. I know it was an old habit of hers, but she'd been fighting it so well and she just happened to relapse at pretty much the worst possible time. Mick came and visited her that night, she's damn lucky he decided to play games with her instead of grabbing her and stringing her up.

That was all just episode 5, don't even get me started on the problems in episode 6.

But overall, still a fairly solid show, the writers just dropped the ball on a few things. Most of the acting was pretty well done, although there were a few performances that were absolutely cringeworthy, just fortunately not from the main stars of the show. The cinematography was phenomenal. The soundtrack was gripping and intense.
A strong and well earned 7/10 from me.

The bit with the crim was a bit unlikely to say the least.
She keeps bumping into him, despite wandering around a massive desert for a week or so. And he had no food or water!

As for the cop ... for the herione to be a "final girl" she cannot be rescued by a man. Therefore the male rescuer figures had to be written out in the penultimate episode, to make the climax even more exciting.

Yes, it's all writing-by-numbers I'm afraid. But then, it's a police procedural instead of a proper slasher story. Not enough Mick, IMHO.

Although I don't completely agree with referring to the show as a "police procedural", you do still have a point. There are many different ways this story could have been done, and it is a little strange that they just created some heroine character to be the star of the show, when the star should have been Mick himself.

Have you heard of a show called "Bates Motel"? It serves as a prequel to the film "Psycho" and gives viewers insight into the upbringing of Norman Bates and you follow his life as his mind unravels.
An idea like that could have worked for Mick Taylor's story. I don't mean corny backstory like they threw in the final episode, I mean a real look at how he came to be. Seeing his first kills and getting more insight into his hatred of tourists, how he learned to hunt so proficiently, etc. Sort of like Dexter, but without the moral code.

Either way, if there is no 2nd season, I hope that John Jarratt will return to the role for a 3rd film at the very least, I can't see anyone else pulling off the character so well.

Haven't seen the final ep yet, it's on TV here next week.

Like the "Bates Motel" comparison - you might also like the show "Hannibal" if you haven't checked it out yet.

Don't know about another Season, but there's a third movie due for release next year (2017).
