This rating is probably premature but I give this a solid 8 out of 10. The writing was so-so but the direction by Duval was pretty good. Loved the story and the film itself.

It was awful.
I didn't think it was that bad. I love movies... any movie. It's entertainment to me ...it's all it is really. Try the old style black and whites... the dialogue and scenes weren't all that great back then but it still had a story behind it.....IMO
I just didn't understand the point of it... There was no need for the Texas Ranger to be the central role. If it was a family/redemption film, that didn't work... I don't understand...

8 out of 10?????? The direction was pretty good???? The only thing worse than the direction was the horrific acting from Duvall's wife, with the writing a close second. I made it through simply because of the screen presence of Hartnett, Franco, and Duvall. That said, it was as bad as anything those 3 actors have ever been associated with.
