Political statement

Why does every show now have to try to make a political statement? Almost all the couples are mixed race.

reply

This is what I came here for. It's such a friggin turn off, and no, not the couples, the pathetic agenda. Waiting for the token Asian and gay or lesbian couple now.
Screw the agenda, please, just make a damn good show.

reply

Amen! I am glad I am not the only one. Thank God for Netflix, at least there you can watch the old shows that had substance.

I understand what you're trying to say as some shows not so subtley try to shove a liberal agenda down the viewers throat, but in this case I think you are making something out of nothing and you are shining a brighter light on this than they are. I didn't give the younger couple a second thought. Nothing out of the ordinary there. The older couple was a bit out of the ordinary, but whatever, it's a TV show. Not everything has an agenda.

I'm pretty sure that there have been couples of mixed race for hundreds of years and beyond. Hollywood has been making movies with mixed race couples for decades. I'll admit that for a second I wondered why there were so many blacks then I realized it's Atlanta, Georgia. Not that there's anything wrong with all the actors being black. I only want a good story with characters I can connect with and be somewhat entertained. And after all, we are all humans and share the same blue planet. You of course, are entitled to your own views (and I'm not judging you) but I don't really see this as a political statement as far as race is concerned. The only political thing I see here is how government and big pharma are entertwined. We have way more serious issues to worry about in our world right now than who people are in relationships with - no matter what your view is or mine.

On almost every show today the writers are producing bad scripts and story lines and they are trying to hard to keep everyone happy. The statistics show that 1/10th of one percent of the total population can't figure out what sex they are but it is one third in new shows. Along with bad grammar the writers guild is as useless as the Emmy's.

reply

It's Atlanta, what did you expect? And honestly, if it bothers you, then maybe the "agenda" is effective.

reply

Did they fulfill the cliche of killing off the gay people first though, or upon seeing a gay relationship, killing one/both of them.

reply

I am just happy I am not the only one who notices the liberal writing ,it is the reason we don't watch once upon a time anymore.

reply

I will never stop watching a show just because of that. When i start a show i finish it doesnt matter what.

reply

The two women that were helping out Leo gather info. They died in each others laps. I believe they were gay.

reply

I haven't gotten to that episode yet. Gay? Are they gay, or is it because in dying one would turn to another human being regardless whether that 'other person' was gay, heterosexual, black, white, young, old, republican, democrat, American, Irish, Japanese, etc. I hope I'm not alone in my final moments.

reply

Why does it even matter? It would of been the same story line even if they are the same race

reply

It matters because even in a fictional story, realistic elements make the story better. This was as realistic as the behavior in Singletons "Higher Learning", which means the characters are about 180 degrees from reality.
