Wide release plans?

Wondering if there's any plans for this to get a wide release? I see its not playing at my local theater, though it is playing at an arthouse theater in the city a little bit of a drive from me. And nothing against arthouse theaters or "road trips", but I'm always somewhat anxious when driving to the city (all the people, crowds, traffic, stimulation,...). So its kind of a dilemma for me - indie movie lover but city hater lol Usually I can wait for the ones I want to see to come out On Demand, etc, but Mike Mills is one of my fave indie "dramedy" directors. Beginners and especially Thumbsucker (hence my profile pic) :-)

Really gotten into indie dramedies the last few years. Much more relateble to me as a middle aged quirky, flawed, and misunderstood but basically good hearted adult male still struggling with "growing up" and trying to find his place in the world. As opposed to most Hollywood stuff where most characters seem to be the tired, depressing, traditional, unrealistic "alpha male" archetype I can't relate to.

Premise for this sounds cool, as while I wasn't raised by all women, sometimes I kinda wish I had been. Or had actually been a girl. Relate to them more than guys often. My Dad was around, but far from the perfect role model (though he had his positive qualities, too). Kinda messed me up and I grew up resenting/rebelling against the macho/alpha type guys. Though Mom was far from perfect herself. So its not that simple as to whether the father is around or not, people lol Depends on the Dad's personality, the kid's personality, and a million other things that go into shaping people. But yeah, I'm definitely a feminist. Which I guess makes me a freak in Trump's America (middle aged straight white male feminist), and probably no one here will relate to me (kill me now), but oh well.

So yeah I'm just wondering if I should wait awhile and hope for an eventual wide release, or bite the bullet and drive to the city to see this. If I do, will probably be on Tuesday this week, during the day in between rush hours - most ideal conditions for braving a city adventure :-)

Well ok then... ::sigh::

TL;DR version: Hey Cat Daddies and Hot Mamas - Any wide release plans for this happenin' flick?

It's expanding wide this weekend, probably around 800-1,000 theaters.

Well...seems I answered my own question, haha. It did come to my local suburban theater this weekend. However (just my luck!), not knowing that at the time (thanks Hepcats & Foxy Mamas), I braved a road trip to the big, bad city on Wednesday to see it. Actually, aside from some anxiety about finding the theater and where to park, I had a pretty good time overall :-) Cool arthouse type theater. Why are they only in stressful cities? :-/

As for the movie? Ah yes... Thought it was pretty good. Thumbsucker may still be my fave by Mills. For this, I related most to the male lead, so it was nice, as a male, to relate most to the male for a change lol Thankfully wasn't the macho, "alpha" type at all. Reminded me of a more experienced version of myself at that age. Cool that it was based on Mills himself. Gerwig's character was probably the most likeable/relateable female for me. Was "iffy" on Elle's character, though she was certainly nice to look at.

Lots of quotable lines...wish I could remember them. Maybe they'll come back to me. Oh...related to one of Gerwig's...something about "passion exceeding skill/ability to convey it properly". Talking about punk rock (good soundtrack, too). And I liked the boy's line about age he says to Alia Shawkat's character. Seemed like something I'd say...oh wait, I probably have said it on this very movie board. Pretty cool. Great minds... ;-) Someone should start a topic of fave quotes from this - might jog my memory further.

Was the youngest in my theater (which was pretty full) by far. I'm 40, so I didn't expect that. Older people love their indies about (some) older people, eh? :-) Guess it makes sense - we mostly relate to those characters and stories most like us (just so happens I most relate to indie "dramedies" about quirky, flawed, but mostly good hearted people struggling to figure things out and I take issue with anyone who'd call that "pretentious" - bite me). And maybe I should have expected that, since it was the same when I saw The Hollars.

Oh, and for those who care, I finally wrote an imdb bio for myself. Maybe I won't seem so "weird" or "crazy" if/after you read...or maybe I will, but I still had to try. May not have Mills directing or storytelling ability, but I still want to get my message across, make my mark on the world, and connect with others. We all do. Shy Lives Matter :-)

It's in wide release now. I loved it. I thought it would be interesting, but didn't expect it to be one of my favorite films of the year.
