Didnt get It (spoilers)

So Johnny and Cherry show at Harper's door and he must decide wether to go ahead with the plan or not. In the storyline where he stays at home, he ends up killing the stepfather. The two timelines develop... then we see again Johnny and Cherry at Harper's door, same dialogue, and it's like the killing happened before that moment, because the dead body is already in the trunk. What did I get wrong? Thanks!

The twist in the plot is that there weren't two separate timelines; he kills his stepfather before Johnny and Cherry show up. A key clue that hints to this is when Harper and his stepfather are talking in the kitchen, and Vincent says that Harper should go take a shower to sober up. We'd already seen Harper showering. So it was all one timeline, we just didn't view it in a linear fashion. Hope that helped!

The thing I liked about this movie was the seemingly two timelines in the beginning. It keeps you guessing and paying attention. I love movies like this and Gone Girl and The Girl on The Train. It almost reminds me of those books when I was a kid where you got to pick the ending by reading a choice of chapters, but you are getting them all at once and have to figure it out.

Interesting. The two timelines thing never even registered with me... I'm not sure where you're getting that from at all.

Hi there! I'd have to watch this again, but I'm pretty sure there's a moment when it goes split screen clearly suggesting two timelines... then towards the end we learn (as explained above) that it's all the same timeline.

When they're in the bar making the deal, to assure him, Johnny tells him to split himself into the guy who goes ahead with the plan and the guy who stays at home, and that he should keep these two seperated, or something like that.

Right afterwards we get the scene with Johnny and Cherry at his door, and then the splitscreen thing happens, where in one screen, he goes with them and in the other he stays at home. So it was clearly suggested that it's two timelines.

When I first realized that the body of the father is in the trunk all along, at first I thought they were going for a time loop thing. lol
