Though Louie has more of a rotating door than a set cast, Pamela Adlon has been a vital recurring piece of the series since the beginning. Her character wears a weariness similar to Louie’s, but less pitiable and more confrontational. It’s unknown if that particular performance will follow Adlon over to her new series, Better Things, but the odds are pretty good. The FX comedy will follow Adlon as a working actress and a single mother of three. The pieces sound familiar, and Louis C.K.’s help co-writing and directing the script only extended the probability that this will mirror Louie in some ways. But that’s hardly a bad thing. And even if the sensibilities are close, Adlon will likely prove to be a vastly different lead performer. There are few sure things in the world of television, but Adlon and C.K. is as good of a pairing as the comedy world has today.
