The Manager

I missed why the manager didn't want Sam to get the series pilot.

The manager didn't want to tell her about the deal memo because once they decided on Sam, they knew the network would search high and low for a big name. The network boss played it off like he'd be cool with her in the lead, but the Jenn character, who I assumed was either the showrunner or a non-writing producer, she mentioned how she blew her credibility with the guy.

Basically, Sam was never going to get that job.

As if your average television viewer understands these types of nuances of Hollywood. This right here is why shows like this are out of touch with viewers. It's what I call lazy writing since all she's done is write a show about her Bohemian life in the film industry. But unless you're a struggling actress in Hollywood with kids you aren't going to relate to this.

Maybe most viewers won't but I actually like how the show gives you insight into the behind the scenes Hollywood life without actually having to spell it all out for you.

Or for your average viewer:
Sam had a similiar experience with that Exec Producer 10 years ago.

Btw that actually happened to Pamela, too.

I thought it was because the manager would a bigger commission if she got the network to offer it to her bigger-name client, Rachel McAdams.

I agree with this, but I also think for the people who aren't connected to the industry that they will put this is a context they can relate to as well...I can actually see them going that route to the audience...

If my answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions.

I mulled this over all day .... I feel like I forgot the type of show it is because I thought the manager evil and out to get her.

Later in the day, it clicked - manager knew not to get her hopes up because deals usually fall through. From Sam's reaction she wasn't too surprised either.
