Really disappointed with the first episode and not really warmed to anyone in the cast. I personally think they should have kept Anna Gunn. Would have helped to have another familiar face. Also I too was put off Mae by the fitness scene was this perhaps meant for Anna?

Alana de la Garza replaced Anna Gunn, she was not supposed to be the "medical examiner/field agent". They felt her role was too similar to Sinise's. They wanted something a little different, hence archaeologist de la Garza's character.
It's the first episode, besides the backdoor episode from CM. So you can only learn so much about the characters.
Glad she was replaced. She was great as Skyler, but anything else I've seen her in, she was average at best. Alana de la Garza is at least a decent actress.
