Much hype followed by much disappointment.

The "hype" was mostly in my mind, I enjoy seeing what new Woody Allen projects will be and I have been anticipating this for several weeks. I have seldom been disappointed over the years. But today, watching this 6-part series on Amazon Prime, I came away totally disappointed. THis series is just dull and hardly worth the approximate 2 hours to see the whole thing. Woody and May look like 80-somethings and sound like 80-somethings, frankly not very interesting to look at or listen to. And the "story" isn't particularly interesting.

I think only genuine die-hard fans of Allen's type of droll humor will enjoy this. For them it is probably a real treat.

Yeah it was sad.

In 2000's underrated (IMO) Small Time Crooks they were old, too old to be an interesting would-be couple, but, they had a cool friendship chemistry, and she was the best thing in that movie...

Here though it's 20+ years too late to ride the quirky wave of Elaine May's style. He should have put her in a lot more movies, but he kept redoing Crimes and Misdemeanors with young sexy people.

This show though, yeah, wow, it was a travesty. I didn't know what I was supposed to even laugh at, or laugh with or laugh about. Miley's character is worse on paper than she is a bad actress transferring the dialogue to the audience. To me, the entire show (and I don't want to get political, but it's hard not to discussing this show) seemed like Woody spouting political ideals that he both agrees with. I never knew if she was supposed to be funny. She has no chops to play comedy to the audience. She did actually pull off the role in one aspect -- this girl seemed to believe in the ideals of Cuba or America, which in itself is completely insane.

Anyhow, in my writeup I basically likened the whole "romance friendship" to Woody and an ingenue in one of his first motion pictures:

Yeah it barely felt like a series if they can even call it that, the story was interesting but it was all just talk aside from a few things. I liked Woody in it tho and some scenes made me laugh but Miley was just bad in it too.

Jesus Christ, how old are you people? I am not a Woody Allen fan, but LOVE Elaine May. Both of them did excellent jobs in their respective roles. Woody Allen was playing the quintessential Woody Allen character and Elaine May is funny no matter what she does. What did you expect you'd see?

I didn't really go into this with much hype, and it was pretty much what I expected. Pretty minor series all around, witty dialogue, pretty overall enjoyable watch.
