Do you agree? I don't. I laughed between 1 and 3 times during the first 5 episodes, which is more than I can say about a lot of Woody's recent movies. The last episode is very funny, but seemed to me that Woody didn't know how to end the story. Also, the performances are very bad.

Whenever people talk about a mini-series, someone says that it's like watching a [blank] hour long movie. That happens here too, but in a bad way. None of the episodes feel complete. I'm guessing that Woody did in fact write this as a movie first.

I laughed throughout. Not huge laughs, but constant, nonetheless.

I chuckled two or three times throughout the series and was bored out of my mind through most of it. It definitely felt like a chopped up movie. It probably would have been better as a movie because he most likely would have trimmed off a half hour or so.

reply

Yeah if this was a movie it would have been a tad better.

Hard to evaluate ...

I am so happy and feel like it is such a treat to see this for free on Amazon,
and it is funny, I just love it. I hope he does more.

I am one of those who when the abuse allegations came out against Woody
just felt like I could not support his movies any longer, and it made me sad.

Then a few years later I read about that situation, and it is very questionable,
but I am satisfied that whatever happened there was not rape or child abuse
and the pain and hurt was what generated the problems. I think it is unfair
that any time Woody does anything the Mia Farrow gang gets together and
tries to ruin it.

I felt like I missed a lot of movies that I really liked, and am now OK with
seeing Woody's movies. I would not feel the same about Roman Polanski,
who we do know did drug and rape an underage girl. I see no indication
of that in Woody's case, and no repetition or suspicion.

I just find every one of his movies a joy to watch even if they are not perfect,
and every once in a while he hits one out of the park. Thanks to Woody and
Amazon for a real treat.

Even Polanski's victim has forgiven him, so maybe it's time to get off the Roman Polanski is BAD bandwagon. If you're avoiding Roman Polanski films because of it, you're missing out on just as much as skipping Woody Allen films.

Well, I am not criticizing what you feel about Polanski,
but I will just add to my own opinion, that it is fine with me
if the victim in his case wants to FORGIVE him, but that is
different than breaking the law. The facts are known and it
was not a civil case ... additionally it is probably that she was
compensated. He is guilty of the crime and fleeing justice,
which is another crime of its own. Let's stick to the facts,
but I am find with you having your own opinion, I just do not
know what it is that you are suggesting. Run for President and
then you can pardon Polanski.

Agree for the most part. There were more belly laughs in this Woody project than I think anything he's put out since the mid-90s. I mean, I genuinely laughed a lot, and most of the time I'm just sort of mildly amused by whatever Woody's new project is (and I've see 'em all).

Performances were fine. I do agree, though, that it felt like a 2 1/2 hour movie just cut up. Woody has been quite clear on how exasperated he's been with this project compared to film and theater, and it shows. It doesn't feel like a TV series, and, yes, the ending was a disappointment.

I was quite pleasantly surprised at the number of lines that got me going - I can't remember that many right now, but was halfway tempted to watch this thing again for some of those laughs. It felt like old-school Woody at times.
