"If that was wired to C4 there would be nothing left of you"

If that was wired to C4 this show would not be taking place during WW2 as the stuff wasn't even invented until the second half of the '50s...

God this show is so full of historical errors it isn't even funny. But that is to be expected from the CBC, they aren't exactly keen on facts.

CBC didn't write the story.

The mistake made in the episode was calling it C4 (that formula was developed in the 60's). The original malleable plastique-type explosive used militarily was developed by the British based on Alfred Nobel's (yeah, that guy) formula (Nobel 808 - created 1870's) during the Second World War.

reply

Okay...so what *was* it called then, then?

reply

C, C2, and C3 were all developed during 2nd World War. C3 was unstable in cold, I believe. C4 was an improvement and came along in the 1960s. So there were plastic explosives used by the French Resistance, but yeah, they wouldn't have been called C4.

Sadly, the plastics available during the War proved completely ineffective versus pedants. Oh snap.

Just watched Bridge over the River Kwai and they used plastic explosive in the movie so they had some in WW2 BUT not C4

reply

Mistake was calling it that, plastic explosives have been around for more than a 140 years.
