Wondering. How much of this is staged?
When they droped himm out in the jungle and the helicopter just leaves I must admit I thought this looked very staged.
Is this "up there" with Goldrush in Alaska and stuff?

what's you definition of "staged"? I'm sure meetings and transportation were pre-arranged (as was the security), the local expert who was with Josh (the older man who spoke the language) probably knew that they were landing in the safe area, and what the local greeting would be like, but perhaps kept it to himself for effect; the helicopter probably had to leave like that for the weather coming in
if you mean do I think the engine parts they examined in the jungle or the bones under the house were planted, no, I don't think so, but this is a television production, and I'm sure there are hours of boring footage, where nothing happens, that we're not seeing
Well I think Todd Hoffmann is actually digging for gold but the entire how and when and "things" are just scripted and staged.
Thats the impression I get when I watch EU. I am sure the guy is out there doing the research. But I find myself wondering about most of the things beyond that and wouldnt put money on the question that he realy is the "first" to see some of these things. +Also looking into the case he was exploring I wonder why they left out some critical information here and there. Probably to create suspense, but why not deliver these informations later then?
All smells scripted and staged to me.
It's a TV show with producers, directors, camera men, etc, so of course some of it is set up. Some of it is probably re-shot too. They do not go out all 'willy nilly' hoping for so thing interesting to happen. Plus keep in mind, we only see the parts they put together for us to see. Trying to keep it interesting for the viewer. Otherwise it would all be National Geographic type shows, with no personally, only film & a narrator.

I thought the same on the vampire episode. When Josh and his guide showed up in the cemetery where the suspected vampire was exhumed, they seemed to have been there no time when two locals showed up in a threatening manner although the cemetery seemed quite isolated. Then not only did one of the locals speak English, he immediately offered to lead Josh to his relative who was the leader of the famous vampire unearthing incident. This is all way beyond dumb luck and speaks of being prearranged. Hopefully the locals were the real people involved, and they didn't just set up some guy to say he did it for the sake of a dramatic moment on camera.
shareIf the dude who lived in the swamp was just some local guy they got to say he was one who dug up the body then Hollywood should come calling. The segment at the house was pretty convincing albeit getting Josh there seemed a little contrived.
shareThat's what I think--it was the real dude but the meeting was set up.

Yeah, although kudos as it provided dramatic effect. There was some serious chemistry between Josh and the translator. Either wish they would bring her back as someone to play off of or get him back to the team mentality of Destination Truth. Josh is always best when bouncing stuff off of a team.
shareI'm sure by now everyone has seen the episodes where Josh shows us behind the scene footage. Jeremy Wade shows us the same stuff. Yeah, some of it is staged, scripted, or re-shot. Not to mention what everyone; host, producer, director, camera crew etc has to go through. Training, exercises, knowledge gathering, etc.

Almost all of it. Story editors spend weeks planning each episode. There are scripts and breakdowns written before anything is filmed (mostly consisting of who Josh will meet, what that person will tell Josh, where that will send Josh to). Sometimes those scripts don't pan out and the crew has to improvise on the spot. The final episodes sometimes don't match the scripts at all.
And there's a ton of reshooting. The *one week earlier* scenes with Josh in his office are shot weeks or months after the rest of the episode usually.
