Why do paid "critics" have such terrible taste in movies? The movie has to be either INDI or have subtitles to get a decent rating, case & point this INDI garbage gets a high rating from paid critics. I've seen thousands of movies so I'm just as qualified to say if a movie is good or bad and this one is brutally BAD. Very slow, acting is really bad & the story is pathetic. I give this a solid 2.5 out of 10

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. And thats all critics are, people who get paid for their opinions on films. But I must disagree with you. This film was a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed the story, didnt see the whole creaturething coming. I think the lead did a great job, very creepy and subtle performance. The cinematography captured the 'small town' feel. The sound design was great, again subtle but creepy. Editing had good pacing, but I think they could have trimmed 10 to 15 minutes. I really liked it so I would give it a solid 7/10 for me.

Grow up, already!! Why is it some people just can't live with the fact that not everyone shares their taste (or lack of)?

I quite liked it and I wish I was a paid critic.

At its core, the film is about a boy with a morbid fascination with death and limited understanding of love who becomes obsessed with a dying man. While the man's relationship with death is what initially interests him, he gets more interested because he does not understand why the man acts how he does as he nears death. The reason, the man goes on a killing spree is so he can spend more time with his life who he loves. The man even tells the boy that he is capable of completely taking over somebody's life but he avoids doing this because it would mean leaving his wife even if he would live longer that way. This relates to what the therapist was saying earlier in the film about whether he can love being the determining factor in whether he should leave. In the end, the monster willingly takes his own life because his body is gone and he can no longer return to his wife. In summary, the film is about the complex relationship between love and death and what people will do for love.

That's just my interpretation, but I hope it helps.

Yep, it had a cool off kilt feel until the reveal in the funeral parlour and then it went a bit on the nose for my taste. The duality of man thing and reference to blake then felt a bit contrived. Loved the exchange between john and the bully.

Best line in the film "The thing about boxes, is that you can open them up. Even though they're completely boring on the outside, there might be something interesting inside. So while you're saying all of these stupid, boring things I'm imagining what it would be like to cut you open and see what you've got in there.”

Absolutely stunning comeback to the bully !!

I have not read the book but probably will.

Psychiatry, sociology, anthropology, sciences?

This story is about labeling and trying to define within our neurological contexts.

The "monster" was killing "innocents" to prolong it's existence with the woman it loved.

The main character was unable to define his feelings so the experience with the killer helped him put it into context.

Hopefully as you live and mature you will experience a range of feelings and "emotions" and understand the importance of context.

"It is all relative."

Sorry about the lack of boobs and explosions.
