Great atmosphere. Does the movie tell you where this is?
There are signs early on for the town: Clayton. But it's not clear whether this is in the U.S. or Canada. Or did I miss clues? I haven't read the book. . .
I liked the atmosphere set by the movie, A small-ish generic town with no clear economy somewhere in the north midwest. I was imagining Michigan, maybe U.P. Maybe some clue went by that I didn't pick up.
There were hints of other movies by background, the main character's youth and social standing reminded me of Donnie Darko. I felt that a lot of effort was put into making the background a big part of the picture.
Plotwise the movie mostly held up. Quiet consistent horror story, somewhat original by its construction. Yet a bit clumsy and undeveloped. The mark of a talented bunch of people without a lot of experience. And I agree with some other posters in other threads who had problem with the sound being a bit low in places. But I want to compliment the writers/ directors/ crew on creating something that went quiet when it could have gone brash and loud.
