Hi,
I just watched this movie in Japanese with French subtitles. Near the end, in the recording, Tokue says that the moon said to her "I wanted you to look at me, that is why I'm shining.", something like that.
I found this sentence beautiful. Do you remember it ? I don't speak Japanese, but it sounded beautiful as well.
If anyone here speaks Japanese and remembers that moment, could you write that sentence for me, in transcription and in Japanese characters ?
I would love to see what it looks like in the original language, even if I don't speak it.

Wish I could help you although I too don't speak or write Japanese. I just watched it myself and also found it very touching and beautiful. To me the Asians are currently making the best films.

It has been a while since you asked, but I just watched this movie yesterday and that part really touched me so I was curious too. I only know very basic Japanese but from transcribing what I heard I was able to find how to correctly write it from a Japanese source, so here it is:

お前に、見て欲しかったんだよ。だから光っていたんだよ。

Romaji:

Omae ni, mite hoshikattanda yo. Dakara hikaritteitanda yo.

お前に, omae ni - for you (familiar, informal term)

見て, mite - looking

欲しかったんだ hoshikatta n da - (I) was wanting (the 'n' just gives it an emotional feel)

よ, yo - exclamation mark. (Japanese has audible punctuation!).

だから, dakara - so, therefore

光っていたんだ, hikaritte ita n da - (I) was shining

よ, yo!

Many thanks for finding and transcribing that, Kusuriyo. I wonder if it's from a poem? This is a very ancient story, yo!
