How Well Will Corden Do?

He's a charming and talented man, and after a couple of weeks, I think he'll be doing just fine. Will you guys be watching him next year?

They call me Michael Vick because after a hot day I like to come home and break my dogs neck.

reply

He seems quite affable, and I think he'll do fine once he gets his legs. Will be interesting to see what direction he takes the show.

reply

Seems childlike to me. Hideously laughs at himself! Annoying!!

reply

It depends if the viewing public give him enough of a chance; he has a completely different set of skills to Craig and it's going to be a very different show.

I'm English and have seen a lot of his stuff over here in the UK. I'm a little surprised they went for him to be honest, purely because he's never been a great conversationalist - he's at his best when he's either performing to a script ("The Wrong Mans" for example) or in casual, silly skits.

Craig always had that ability to be engaging and charming at the same time, he has a smooth and easy style (very suited to the US chat show scene), but I'm curious as to what CBS are expecting from the interviews Corden conducts. They could be quite disjointed in comparison.

He'll settle in to it and improve gradually as the months go by, but will he improve enough? Who knows.

reply

Hope the fact he's a Brit means it won't feel too professional and keep its whimsical 'anything can happen' feel.

reply

I think Corden will do just fine, but what I don't understand is why they're giving him a band when neither one of the Craigs or Tom Synder got one. Seems a little unfair.....

reply

Seems like all the complaining about the lack of amenities good ol' CraigyFerg did got through in the end, or after the fact more like. I did like the concept of Alfredo Sauce and the ShyFellas more than some actual average hotel lobby band, so I don't feel like there was a loss at that end. The jokes about it were more entertaining than a lot of bands could be.

Seems like Reggie Watts will be a refreshingly unique feature on the late night circuit if they let him be himself... Like the Roots on the Tonight show, that works well.

Suprise! Nothing to see here

reply

i would rather he have a band than an an idiotic puppeted robot.

reply

I should imagine it'll be fine. They must have done a few mockup shows before they hired the guy.

reply

I hope things go well for him....as that means he'll stay in the US,i'm sure this page will have a few fellow brits wishing him well, but the message boards and facebook pages of the UK's daily newspapers, tell a different story....like me,they all seem to be puzzled why this overly loud and unfunny man,is the host of US chat show ?....truly bizarre.

reply

My fellow Brit is talking out of his arse.

Cordan is massive in the UK and the press adore him.

reply

exactly....the press adore him....massive ? go home son you're drunk, wrote some good stuff, isn't too bad an actor...funny man.?...you're talking rubbish....you just have to read the comments left by the readers of the sun,mail,mirror.etc...he's the loud guy in the pub who laughs at his own jokes.

reply

Ah yes... The readers of the Sun, Mail and Mirror. Yes these are the cream of British intelligence.

Not a Gavin and Stacy fan I take it then...Um....."Son"?

reply

As howard stern says..its late night, not rocket science.

He has a team of writers who write his interview questions. Producers who secure his guests, staff who dress him. Long as he does not crap the bed he will be fine.

reply

If this is any indication, I think he'll do great.

After what I saw last night, James Corden will be fine. After Leno left The Tonight Show the powers that be at CBS must have been taking copious notes observing how NBC has done everything to ensure Fallon would not fail. As long as CBS provides a "hip" environment with a "hip" band (Reggie Watts), not to mention the first bar built on stage on American late night TV, TLLS will be interesting to watch. Not to mention bringing back the Dick Cavett, and Johnny Carson method of having multiple guests at once will be welcome. So for those who think Jonathan Ross, and Graham Norton came up with that idea first, there are many youtube videos out there that show it was an American talk show concept over forty years ago.

With Craig Ferguson it was never about the ratings, and apparently CBS didn't mind that he did things his way. This is going to be a different animal, and I've followed James Corden's UK work so I know he's up for the job.

First show was ok, but his laugh was a bit annoying. now after seeing 4 shows, his laugh is increasing annoying. So far he presents a silly, goofy, not so clever or smart, humble to be here guy. I'm like, "how did he pull this off?!" Too simple. C Handler, whom I have not seen in awhile, I always found sharp, clever, and fairly entertaining. This is not working for me. That hideous laughable nature is too annoying and distracting.
