I don't know if he's known well enough here to host the Late Late show.

I've seen him in several British shows and movies, he seems like a funny enough guy and nice too, I'm pretty sure there will be a big difference between his version of the show and Ferguson's but do enough people know Corden? Ferguson I think most people just knew as the boss from the Drew Carrey show back in the late 90s, but besides anyone who has watched Into The Woods or The Wrong Mans on Hulu, will anyone here know him?

He is following one of the biggest talk hosts of this era. He should do fine. Craig Kilborn was so much different from Ferguson too. I wish that they had used the same method of auditioning this time around. They could have turned it into a kind of American Idol for a talk show.

The guy that follows Fallon on late Night is not a recognised figure. I think he is better than Fallon, and I believe had he been a name guy, he could have made the list for replacement of Leno. Conan wasn't exactly known much either. All of the networks seem to take a bit of a risk for this time slot because they can afford to try at that time of night.

If Corden doesn't work out, it will be cleaner to give him the slip. He can go back to England without a huge loss. At the very least he will have made more than a few Hollywood connections. Les Moonves is known for being a patient guy, and there is no doubt that Corden was vetted quite strongly before he received his offer.

lol wat? Just addressing Seth Meyers, he is beyond terrible, not even funny. Fallon and Conan are many, many, many leagues above him.

reply

Yes, that's it! Seth plays it as a straight man and not meant to be too funny. He is definitely a corporate type guy, but he did come out of nowhere.

Fallon overwhelms his guests by trying to be funny, but he usually is not funny. He is generic vanilla. He has way too much filler with no decent substance. Leno was accused of being the same, but he did have that "X" appeal and recurring bits that made it work. NBC went with less of the same, as the edgier stuff just does not play during that time slot. Seth would have been more of the same, but it still would not have been up to the Leno standard. It is embarrassing that Fallon is the best NBC could find, but it is clear that they did not want to attempt anything solid after the Conan fiasco. Low end "humour" sells, and NBC is ok with that. It is not like they are on top with anything else. The whole network is going bad.

Conan is almost a perfect balance in his own way, but he could not make the Tonight Show gig work. Kimmel probably would have diminished Conan's ratings even further.

CBS can afford to go out of the way to find something different. If Corden does not work, then it won't be a devastating loss. The Eye is pretty much number 1 in the most slots on broadcast. You said it, Corden's only current competition is beyond terrible, not even funny. He does not have a high bar to overcome. Corden comes off as buffoonish and mild. He definitively does not have the charisma to ever take over The Late Show. He probably won't have the appeal of Craig Kilborn, but does he have to at this point?

Wayne Brady.

Nuff said.

When he was a guest on Craig Ferguson's LLS, I thought it was just another person from the audience like Craig usually did. There was no presence or charisma about this guy. I thought it might have been just a one-off but he appeared the same in a few other promos I saw. So unless he has a serious makeover in terms of change and attitude and a split personality, I don't see this show ever taking off due to him being nothing special or even above average.

I never heard of Corden before he was announced to take over LLS. I watched a few videos of him doing random stuff on YouTube. He seems OK. I just don't know him well enough (yet).
I'm willing to give him an honest try at the LLS. Craig Ferguson, you know at first I thought he was weird. I watched him when he first got hired and flipped the channel. I never watched Drew Carey that much and barely knew who he was. Then my mother started watching Craig randomly and loved him. I then followed. We went on to see three of his live stand up comedy performances. I loved Craig and was sad to see him go afterwards.

Now to be honest, it looks like Corden is in the same position. He's an unknown European to me. He may blow it out of the water like Craig did or he will totally stink and get fired. But I am willing to give him a shot and not change the channel immediately. I hope he does well and he is funny. I'm glad they are keeping a European on the show just to spice up the late night game. Craig fit in so well and was so different from the same old boring crap. Corden seems like he might be the same way.
I loved Craig, but to be honest, his show was getting kind of stale over the years. Some parts of his show were getting odd. I never liked the horse or the stupid puppet routines. I did like the robot, only after I seen Josh in his live stand up performance than I came to appreciate his presence on the LLS.

He's got a hell of a lead in. The final episodes of Letterman and the debut episodes of Colbert are gonna be a viewer bonanza. Can't ask for more than that. I'm pretty overdosed on British personalities. Like, enough. Seriously. So that's gonna be a helluva road block for me.

I wish they did audition different people also i liked when they did that when Kilborn left. I never heard of James i watched a few stuff on youtube he seems like hes seems charming and funny. I was rooting for Norm Mcdonald to get the job i was hoping they would gave him a chance.

reply

Well, was Craig Ferguson that famous when he started doing the show more than 10 years ago? Like you said he did a couple of stuff but he was not famous. Just by being in Into the Woods makes Corden way more famous than Craig Ferguson was I am sure. That movie was atrocious but it was popular.

I don't see how fame is a prerequisite for hosting. After all Conan, Letterman, Leno, Colbert, Stewart, Kimmel mostly, could be said for Ferguson as well etc. and Johnny Carson himself gained international recognition through the eminently watchable work they did on talk shows rather than being chosen to host because of their celebrity status.

Corden is a professional actor and comedian, and a very chatty fellow indeed. As such he of all people definitely should be hosting a talker, whether it's on local cable, the Internet or a major network. He could talk the ears off a donkey. I'll give him a chance, what do I have to lose?

Suprise! Nothing to see here

Relatively speaking the mass audience didn't know Conan, Kimmel or Ferguson when they began.
