CBS is just not in the sound bite business
Except that trends show that this is how the youger generations watch TV so they might miss the boat on that one if they aren't paying attention.
He is getting better but I agree the ratings are not ratings that will survive, however CBS (if they are going to be fair) needs to put him up after something better than old reruns of cancelled or soon to be cancelled series. It would be absurd to expect him to be doing well with no lead in and almost no promition.
The only smart business model I can see at work, and CBS tends to be more patient and smart about their moves than the likes of NBC and ABC, is giving him a chance to find his footing without over-promoting him, and then promote the crap out of him when Colbert comes back on the air in September.
He is getting better at it and finding his bits that generate viral promotions so if this is what they are doind I could see it working out.
As I said you don't take a total unknown like Corden and put him on after reruns and expect anything else to happen than what is happening.
On the other hand it would have been interesting to see what Craig would have done with this kind of budget. They are clearly putting more money in it.
