The Founder vs. The Social Network
What makes the Facebook movie work and this movie kind of flounder?
Is it the lead performance? Zuckerberg is a misunderstood genius, but Kroc is just an unscrupulous thief. Is this like telling The Social Network from the perspective of the Winklevi? Zuckerberg and the McDonald's brothers created somethings that were unique, useful, and popular. Then, somebody else tries to take it away undeservedly.
But that's a little too simple, isn't it? At least Kroc was a pretty good businessman - a smart, determined douchebag of a businessman. Did they really need to show him "stealing" another man's wife. I saw little reason to sympathize with Kroc.
I think they could've made a much better film if Dick and Mac had been the protagonists. Theirs is a tragic story. They're painted as pretty good dudes who worked hard and innovated to achieve their success.
What do you guys think? Did this movie work for you?
