people were looking for a simple he's good or he's evil pic. And something which talked about the founding of McDonalds stops before any mention of McDonalds and Ronald McDonald/McDonaldland (1970s).

Honestly that is what I think of when I hear McDonalds but it was something the corporation dreamed up to lure children and their families. They copied (and were sued by) HR Puffinstuff--a childrens show then on.

the movie ends in 1970 which I did not realize.

I think that people went not expecting that....

It's a good movie for what it does cover and how it covers it. Nobody's a saint/not a saint. But it wasn't necessarily the timeline which the current public was expecting to see.

It is oscar worthy. The movie studio just decided to promote another movie to the academy instead.

It happens all the time. Like having 3 songs nominated from Enchanted, and zero from Walk Hard. The people voting for this stuff don't exact scour the land reviewing every movie made for the year and basing their decision on merit. It's a joke. It's all based on buzz already out there or trying to generate buzz for failed productions.
