Strike's motivation to .......... *SPOILERS*

Did Strike fire Robin at the end of Career of Evil to keep her safe from the serial killer who is stalking her and ended up attacking and injuring her? Did he fire her only for "gross misconduct" for going to Brockbank's home without his knowledge? Was Strike's anger really that she was marrying Matthew, so he placed that anger onto her insubordination going to Brockbank's, amplifying it into a fireable offense?

Before I read Career of Evil, I thought Strike sacking her was solely because of her insubordination. After reading the book and knowing Strike's elaborate plan that needed Robin's absence to prove Laing is the Shacklewell Ripper and is not fully portrayed in the TV show, I'm thinking it was to protect Robin.

I'm just not sure. One thing I do know - at this point Strike has it so very bad for her. Maybe he doesn't even realize himself the true reason why he fired her.
