Casting Choices

As of this writing, they have announced 5 cast members and as an avid reader of the books, I have to say I'm thrilled with the choices, particularly the two leads! They're both exactly what I envisioned and now I'm twice as excited for this series!

I agree! Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger are pretty close to how I imagined Strike and Robin while reading, and I'm sure they will do a great job. Can't wait for this series! ξ€Ή

reply

Yes! I had a hard time imagining Cormoran in particular. I pictured him as quite old looking and unattractive but then I'd remind myself how beautiful his ex is and how several gorgeous women are so drawn to him throughout the series. So once they cast Burke, it finally came together in my head. He's the perfect fit - not traditionally handsome but quite attractive and from what I've read about him in the Three Musketeers, his demeanor is intoxicating.

I've seen baby-face Tom in real life a couple of times close-up, I've seen stills from this series and think he's all wrong for Cormoran. CS (in the books) is very overweight, and I think almost forty (and I get the impression looks even older). Not unattractive to many, and nothing like Tom.

"Not unattractive to many" means attractive to many.

Not sure what your point was.

reply

I agree! And Lula is just amazing! They couldn't have picked a better actress. This girl is stunning (:

reply

OMG, I know, she's STUNNING. Couldn't have imagined a better choice.

reply

Matthew is a miss for me. He's uglier than Strike. I wanted him to be more traditionally handsome.

reply

Ya think so? He seems a little more clean cut looking than the guy playing Cormoran but as far as traditionally handsome, chiseled-feature types, I guess I can see your point. Maybe the styling and haircuts will draw a more defined line.

reply

Agree.

I'm officially super psyched for this series!!!πŸ™Œ
I just finished binge-watching all 3 Seasons of "The Musketeers" show and Tom Burke was a revelation as the perpetually angsty, mercurial Athos - by far the best actor out of the 4 leads - or at the very least, the most compelling!πŸ˜‰
I almost wish that they had let Tom stay a *little* more scruffy looking for portraying Cormoran, (judging by the first two sneak peek photos) he's practically clean cut compared to how dirty, sweaty and hairy he was as Athos (which just makes him even more attractive in my eyes...naturally)😍
That being said - I just know he's gunna be perfect (yes, I realize my basis for comparison is my viewing of him playing only *one* character (haven't seen his other works - yet - but I most assuredly will be seeking them out), but he wholly embodied that one character (Athos) and you could tell he was completely immersed in the role.
This assures me that he will take the role seriously and play the part with aplomb! (Gosh my vocabulary is odd today - must be from all the period dramas I've been devouring as of late)
I've only seen Holliday in a relatively small role as one of the wicked stepsisters in the recent Cinderella live-action film. So I don't have much to go on for her, but she certainly *looks* the part in the one picture we've seen so far.
I'm mostly excited to see how Tom interprets the role of Cormoran Strike - but my gut is telling me that it's gunna be fantastic!😁
