New genre: Body horror soap opera

After Thanatomorphose (2012) and Contracted (2013) another bad movie where the main character slowy rotting or trasform in something else without foolishly even go to the ER. Apart from this the big problem for me in "Bite" was the plot usued to intersperse the body horror scene. It was basically a damn boring soap opera.
A pity because the visual fx aren't so bad but the plot and lots of mistakes put this movie in the bottom of my ratings, unfortunately i'm starting to accept the idea that we will never have more masterpiece of body horror like "The fly". 2/10.

The last really good "body horror" movie I saw was The Ruins.

Nothing worthwhile has come out since then. Contracted was just okay.

I actually really hate the movie The Fly. I don't like flies so it disgusted me to no end. I can handle gore (ie. Hostel parts I and II, The Hills Have Eyes 06, Last House 09) -- I am a horror fanatic. But when it comes to spiders, bugs, worms, centipedes, flies... all that stuff... I can't do it. The Fly may be a great example of body horror but it will never be on my horror-favorites list and I'll never enjoy it. I hate it. So gross.

Really, the only body horror film I enjoy is The Ruins. It's one of my favorite horror films despite the silly premise. I like how they play it completely straight with the horribly grim tone. My favorite aspect of it is the character of Stacy slowly losing her mind and eventually going frantic with the hunting knife and cutting/pulling the vines out of herself.

In my opinion "Ruins" is not really a body horror but anyway is a pretty decent horror, probably you already know this but Splinter (2008) is very similar.

How is The Ruins not body horror? I mean sure it's definitely other things besides body horror. But body horror is a HUGE component of the film...it pretty much dominates the 2nd half of the film.

The boundaries in horror genres are often really thin and very subjective, personally for body horror I intend movies wher there is graphic destruction/degeneration of the body and the plot answers to a generic question like "In what is turning the protagonist?".
Said this "Ruins" is mainly a horror with a killer vine, it contains body horror scenes, of course, but is not the main theme of the movie.
Anyway nothing against your comment, just personal thoughts!
