One of my favorite movies, BUT...

...I'm just a bit confused on how the family got 3 relatively large structures built, using milled lumber...without a pot to piss in, and in such a quick period of time. I think it would have been more effective if they simply had a fence and a hand-build cabin with full un-milled logs from nearby trees...but these structures had milled wood and door hinges and whatnot. The barn even had a loft with a ladder leading up to it! A house, a barn with a loft, a shed, fencing, and a variety of animals (horse, goat, chickens, etc)...pretty decent haul for what otherwise seemed like a poor family. Heck, the dad had to sell a family heirloom just for some food...how did they pay for all that milled lumber and labor?! It appears they just showed up one day to this plot of land, then the next scene they had a farm with 3 large structures and fencing built. Seems impossible the otherwise inept father could have put all that together basically by himself.

One other part I didn't like was near the end when it showed how much wood the dad had chopped up...I think it was meant to be a bit of a humor type of scene, and it did make me chuckle. But the height of the wood stacked against the home was twice his height...seems unlikely anyone could have chopped that much -- and stacked it that high -- in the amount of time they were on the farm and in the 1600's. Maybe he used the ladder from the barn but I don't see anyone stacking wood that high for any reason, it would be difficult to retrieve consistently. You would just start a pile elsewhere. There was plenty of other structures to stack it against, lol!

Am I wrong about this?
