Adding to the mystery of Michelle & Gina's relationship...

I remember after the rescue all the reports that Gina and Michelle were still in contact and still close. Then I remember a story coming out months after the escape where Michelle and the DeJesus family attended a game together. After listening to interviews and reading their stories recently, I thought I must have imagined that, because Michelle claims they stopped being close right after the escape, while Gina says they stopped being close years before and that she was closer with Amanda towards the end (odd, since they were often locked away from each other). I knew something didn't add up, and I found the article (and picture) that I'm talking about:

This was four months after their escape, and right after Castro committed suicide. I find it somewhat troubling they were close up until that point, until Gina started working with Amanda on their book. I'm not meaning to blame Amanda at all, the girls said how they were manipulated and often pitted against each other. Maybe that mindset has just carried on into their outside lives?

YES!!!! I was wondering if anyone even knew about this. One of the people I know from Medina, Ohio on Facebook, Becky George, posted a picture of Michelle at this game!!! She said how incredible it was that Michelle was seated next to her in the stands, as Michelle was her hero. She did not take Gina's picture, but she mentioned in her post that Gina was with Michelle, and they were talking and laughing and having a great time at time game. As the time has gone on since the rescue, and people say they don't talk, etc., I would often think, well, Becky George sat right next to them! So, yes, they were friends in the months after the rescue - in Michelle's book, and on her interviews, she did say that she wanted to talk to Gina every single day. And that scene in the movie when Gina says she and her parents think it best if they do not remain in such close contact -- that was so true to life!! But, honestly, I feel that them going their separate ways isn't because they don't like each other. They will always care about one another. But it's like when you graduate from school, go to a different job, etc. You move on with your life. They will never be friends the way they were in Castro's house - that was a forced situation. It's like people who are held hostage together - they HAVE to go their separate ways in order to keep their sanity. I predict that Gina and Michelle will eventually be a different type of friend in future decades.

Why do you think this doesn't apply to Amanda? the books & film, etc.
Gina rarely interacted w/Amanda. I'm reading Hope now, maybe I'll
get some answers there.I just hope Gina speaks up so we get her side.

You must have been all tingly being that close to her.
That lil lady is powerful and quite funny too!
