Near rescue Jocelyn saw out of the window that Castro was gone?

I didn't understand that right before Amanda busted out, Jocelyn looked out the window and saw that Castro's car was gone? I thought the windows were boarded up and they could not see outside at all? It does not make sense that Jocelyn was able to see out of the window.
Also, why would Castro leave the front door unlocked after 10 years? I wonder if he did it on purpose knowing they would get out? Maybe he knew the time was coming that Jocelyn could not live like that any longer?
Some things just don't add up.

The door wasn't boarded up. That's where she looked. I think it's so odd after 10 years he left it unlocked. It doesn't seem like he would forget or do it on purpose. It's to bad we will never know.

He forgot That time!

I think it is quite possible that he left the door unlocked other times, and the girls simply didn't notice. They knew his habits, and locking the door was one of them. They simply didn't check the door each time her left. He had them so afraid of what he could do to them that escape just wasn't an option they thought they had. He would sometimes make it look like he was leaving, but was actually hiding and testing weather or not the girls would try to escape. He had such control over them, they were simply afraid to try the door each time he left. Jocelyn had more freedom in the house than the older girls, so when she noticed her Dad had left and didn't lock the door, she got excited and told her Mom about it. Even then, Amanda didn't simply run out to door, she took her time and made sure he was gone.

There is another possibility that Castro simply wanted it all to end. He knew it couldn't go on forever, and decided to end it without actually turning himself in.
