I was really impressed with the performance of Taryn Manning ... not many young actresses are willing to play such a difficult part where they will not look great ... then I discoverd she is about 36 ...
All during the movie, I could have sworn it was Melanie Griffith playing the lead role of Michelle ...

The movie was disturbng on so many levels. I have not read the book, but from.other comments Ive read the movie was dialed back.
That said, I hope people dont let little ones watch movies like this. There are just so many extremely disturbing images on TV & movies that small children should not have imprinted ...
Whats even more tragic, are the small children who live in such abusive hell as Michell Knight did.

I have a neighbor. He reminds of Ariel Castro. He has an 8 year old daughter. Last, I heard he let her watch this movie. When he was asked to explain himself, he said it was for educational purposes.

I think that is so terribley wrong & sad ...

and this is just one graphic movie we're discussing.
Think of all the even more graphic and intense movies out there - combined witb countless disturbing images that can be veiwed on-line ...

Each successive generation viewing more disturbing images than the previous generation - little eyes not being protected ...

I wonder what future generations of people will be like ...

I liked her performance too. So much that I didn't mind that she was obviously older than her character.

She was certainly annoying in all of the other movies she's been in: Crossroads, Crazy/Beautiful, etc. That ghettolicious accent she does is just weird. I thought she would have lost it by now but she's still doing it 15 years later. She must have a crappy agent and acting coach.
