Anyone else bothered by no positive female role?

It seemed kind of weird to me that there was no mama, sister, best friend, or wife in the film who could be a positive depiction of a woman in this. Much less a Black or latinx woman.

Outside of grandma, pretty much every girl or woman we saw seemed to be just a sex object of some kind.

I felt the same way. Could they not find an actress to play his mom? Granted; he didn't really have any great role models but there could have been one woman/girl to talk some sense into him.

Mom was busy working keeping a roof over young Brandon's head. Plus you could tell she was a mom doing the best she could, she gave him money on his birthday and when Brandon speaks about her in the movie it's with love and respect.

Isn't that the reality for a lot of these kids. A hard working mother who's absent because she's working hard.

Well the young girl who invites him to a party at the beginning of the movie seemed pretty decent.
