The problem that caused a drop in viewership for Netflix MARVEL shows
It all has to do with the stories. Season 2 of Jessica Jones led off this second round of Netflix MARVEL shows and it never really took us anywhere. Going back and showing us more of Jessica's past and following Trish Walker on her journey were not interesting plots. I did something with that season that I'd previously not done with a Netflix MARVEL show. I quit watching about halfway though.
The main problem with that second seasons of Jessica Jones, of Iron Fist and Luke Cage, is that the shows didn't "up" the ante or give any of these characters a new direction to go. It was just more of the same situations from the initial seasons. At some point, you've got to elevate a story to elevate a character. These shows also suffered from a drag. They seemed to take forever to arrive at moments that fans were waiting on, bogging down in supposition with meaningless side stories. Those two elements right there [1. giving the hero a new, elevated story or challenge; 2. eliminating meaningless side stories] would have made the second season of ALL these shows that much more enjoyable.
Bottom line, if you show someone the same thing over and over, they're eventually going to quit watching. This is where Netflix failed the audience.
