I don't buy Jessica Jones and Luke Cage joining a superhero team

They're just two average joes who had special abilities forced upon them, and unlike Daredevil they don't enjoy the superhero life. In the long-term they crave an ordinary existence and just want to be left alone.

Any action they've both taken up to this point has been driven by a combination of desire for revenge and basic human decency rather than a genuine desire to tear down corruption and clean up the streets. I can't see why they'd want to team up with two costume wearing weirdos to fight crime on a regular basis.

So what...? anybody can be a hero, even your average joes

If people were trying to bring you DOWN, that means you were ABOVE them.

reply

Oh absolutely, but joining an ensemble of vigilantes? It doesn't really fit their characters.

reply

What character do you mean? And... they're also vigilante themselves, only with public identity, so of course they can.

If people were trying to bring you DOWN, that means you were ABOVE them.

We don't know the plot of Defenders yet. Maybe there are personal things at stake for them. Maybe there's a threat that's big enough they know that if they don't help, millions of people might die. Wait and see.

What makes you think they are going to be teaming up with 2 costumed weirdos to fight crime on a "regular" basis? There is no reason for them to team up to take down a couple drug runners and petty thieves/burglars either, so I don't think that's what the Defenders is going to be about.

Defenders, and "joining" doesn't and probably isn't about them hanging out to do that. It's probably more along the lines of some very bad thing (maybe not even human) that not one of them could defeat on their on; hence having to work together. But, that doesn't make them a team like Xmen.... Or the Avengers where they go on missions together all over the place. More of a loose confederation of like minded individuals that can count on each other if they need backup.

(but I could be wrong, maybe they'll get a office, with a gold leaf sign.. in Harlem.. that says "Heroes for Hire".)

Well it's not quite going to be like joining a superhero team, but either both of them had come around a little by the end of their series. Luke Cage for sure was done just trying to live his life and be left alone. He's all in trying to help people now. And Jessica is in that life now, from the ending of her season, with all those people there for her help.

I'm sure there will be more incentive than just 'we got to join the team and help out'.

reply

sure they are both reluctant heroes, but that just means the stakes will be high to get them involved.
