please add the punisher.
just please.
shareI second that! I'm only slightly interested in this, but add Jon as the Punisher, and I'll be all for it.
shareAgreed! The Punisher will without a doubt make this epic!
shareI don't see the Punisher working with the team or vice versa. So far, three of the four Defenders have been more or less anti-killing. I don't think they'd accept Frank gunning down everyone in sight. Likewise, Frank doesn't have any interest in costume do-gooding.
shareThe writers were going to put him in, until they realized he would kill all of the villains in the first five minutes of the film, then there would be nothing left for anybody else to do.
shareI can't see him being part of a team. But we will be getting an entire show focused on punisher.
shareoh ye he better be.
shareMatt doesn't have that skillset, hell if he had been wearing his black outfit when he encountered Frank he would have been screwed. Jessica Jones sure as *beep* doesn't know anything about tactics and warfare. Luke Cage has a lot of street smarts but again, nothing that says "I'll run a team of badasses that operate with surgical precision against world-ending threats!"
Frank Castle already was and has been a leader, he just has no interest in it right now and that would make it compelling. Not just a reluctant leader, but one who outright tries to step outside of the leadership role every chance he can get.
Or why not Jeri Hogarth as their Amanda Waller and The Punisher taking the Rick Flag role.
shareJeri Hogarth doesn't have the skillset to be the "Amanda Waller"...traditionally the Defenders formed on their own but if anyone is bringing this team together it should be Nick Fury, it'd be good to see him in a gritty crime thriller vs Avengers. I'd have no idea how or why Jeri Hogarth would even put this team together. Especially coercing MAtt Murdock and Frank Castle. Nick Fury could get both of em.
shareHogarth doesn't need to have the same skillset that is similar to Waller because she's her own character. She could have JJ go after Frank Castle without going to the details, arrange a meeting, bringing in the Defenders initiative and persuade him to lead the 4 of them.
shareWhat could possibly be her motives and how would she rope-in Castle or Matt? It seems extremely thin. Unless they are brought together to serve her purposes under the guise of something else (ultimately making her a villain or anti-villain similar to Waller, I suppose), in which case that could actually be pretty intriguing. However, while no one in the group has Waller's skill set, Frank CAstle comes pretty damn close. He has done secret-ops as hinted in the DD s2 finale and hes a special forces hard-case. If anyone could bring the "Nick Fury skillset" to this team it's Frank.
Final thought: Jeri Hogarth would have to figure out how to lie to Matt Murdoch which we know is damn-near impossible! Maybe if she had ninja training....
Now that DA Reyes is dead, I have an idea that she'll go after that post, she pitches a "Defenders" idea to the NY government and be able to support her initiative. On recruiting the Punisher, she's gonna offer him full pardon of all his crimes as an exchange to lead the team.
